The wake-up call I needed to change my life…
It may not look like it, but living a healthy lifestyle wasn’t always the norm for me. Before I became a fitness coach, I struggled…
I went from obsessing about being skinny, working out two hours each day and barely eating anything…to binge eating and gaining weight like it was my job.
When I was obsessively working out and skipping meals, I lost my menstrual cycle and eventually burned out. I stopped exercising, started eating more fats and carbs, lost all control around food, and started binge eating.
I looked to food for everything. If I felt happy, sad, or excited, food was my “solution”. I would eat so much and get so full, that I’d end up making myself throw up, just to feel better. I went from a size 0 to a size 12!
Eventually, this lifestyle took a toll on me. I became depressed and hated getting dressed, because none of my clothes fit. I didn’t want to go out with friends, because I hated what I saw in the mirror. I couldn’t enjoy time with family, because I was obsessed with food. I’d linger around it at events and stuff my face. I had ZERO self-control.
I knew I had to make changes, but didn’t know where to start, so I tried everything: diets, logging & weighing food, weighing myself consistently, downloading exercise and food apps, weight loss supplements, diet books, cleanses; I even tried going vegan and vegetarian for awhile, and hired nutritionists, coaches, and attended workshops. You name it, I tried it!
But nothing fit my lifestyle. I was always at war with food, myself, and my husband. The last straw was when we got into an argument and he said “You treat your friends and family like gold, but you treat me like crap! You need to figure this out. You want to have children? There’s no way can I trust that you’re mentally ready to have kids. Either you change…or I’m out!”.
I’ll never forget his words. It was the wake-up call I needed, because I didn’t want to lose him and I surely didn’t want to keep living that lifestyle.
So, I started to explore different options and invested in myself. I was on a mission to find something that worked for me and would keep me motivated.
Through my journey, I learned to view food very differently. I realized food isn’t my friend, nor my enemy; it’s fuel for my body. I remind myself that whatever meal or food I’m eating isn’t the last time I’m going to eat. Food is and will always be everywhere; this helped me find balance with eating.
I’ve made peace with food. My husband and I are foodies and love to try new restaurants. We eat nutritious foods the majority of the time and allow ourselves to indulge on occasion, without feeling guilty about it.
Because I made so many changes, I decided to help others who may be struggling like I did. I’m now a fitness and health coach and through my work with clients over the years, I’ve created a step-by-step system. It includes delicious, nutritious foods that provide energy, along with fun workouts that make you feel strong & fit.
As for my husband, he’s been supportive every step of the way, adopting my new healthy lifestyle too! We now have an amazing daughter and continue to prioritize our health, so we can be great parents and role models for her.
