6 Daily Habits that will Change your Body and Mind Especially for Overwhelmed Parents

As the holidays get into full swing, I want to share 6 daily habits that will change your body and mind. It’s an easy guide to follow!

#1 Eat your favorite foods. You don’t need to completely cut out your favorite foods. Instead,

  • Find healthier alternative

  • Eat them only once and a while

  • Don’t binge on them when they are available

If you tell yourself that you can’t or shouldn’t have a particular food, it can lead to intense feelings of deprivation that build into uncontrollable cravings and, often, bingeing. When you finally “give in” to your forbidden foods, eating will be experienced with such intensity it usually results in overeating.

Instead, focus on eating till you're satisfied.  When you eat what you really want, in an environment that is inviting, it will help you feel satisfied and content. By providing this experience for yourself, you will find that it takes just the right amount of food for you to decide you’ve had “enough.”

#2 Cut down on alcohol. Besides extra calories, alcohol has negative side effects on muscle growth, sleep, and mood. There are really no benefits to drinking alcohol. So, limit yourself to 2 alcoholic drinks a week.

There are many benefits to cutting down or cutting out alcohol. Taking a break from alcohol is one of the best things you can do for your health. Whether you’re thinking about drinking less in an average week or avoiding alcohol completely, there are so many good reasons to consider this lifestyle change.

Some of the benefits of taking a break or cutting down of alcohol are:

  • Lower blood sugar

  • Lower blood pressure

  • Improved sleep and concentration

  • More energy

  • Overall improvement in health

#3 Walk for an hour every day. Walking is the most underrated fitness routine. It improves mobility and aids in fat loss. Did you know that walking 10,000 steps a day can burn an additional 300 calories? That could put you into a caloric deficit to start losing weight. Walking is a fitness cheat code because it:

  • Improves Joint Mobility

  • Makes you more flexible

  • Improves Mental clarity

  • Improves mood

  • Increases energy burned

It is THE easiest thing to do to instantly improve your health.

#4 Prioritize protein in every meal. Protein boosts your metabolism, reduces cravings, and builds muscles. Find good protein by eating:

  • Beef

  • Chicken

  • Fish

  • Eggs

Protein is the building block of your muscles. Eating adequate amounts of protein helps you maintain your muscle mass and promotes muscle growth when you do strength training. Protein can increase feelings of fullness/satiety, potentially leading to less total calories consumed and therefore a total caloric deficit. Combine protein with veggies to add muscles to your frame and improve your physique.

#5 Get enough quality sleep. This is the best way to reach your health and fitness goals. Consider these ways to ensure good sleep:

  • Turn off all screens an hour before bed.

  • Keep your room cool.

  • Calm your mind with reading or relaxation techniques.

Sleep gives your body time to recover, conserve energy, and repair and build up the muscles worked during exercise. Sufficient sleep is also important in having the energy to exercise. Not getting enough sleep can lead to being less physically active during the day and reduced muscle strength during workouts.

Get 8 hours a night to feel rested and recuperated.

#6 Change your mindset to someone who sees themselves as a fit person. If you consider yourself a healthy person, you will start to become one.

Focusing on small wins, learning from our failures and transforming negative thinking to positive outlooks can completely change how you see the world.

Keep a circle of positivity and surrounding yourself with a supportive circle can keep you in the right frame of mind.

Eat better, move more, sleep better and become more positive: you are who you think you are.
