Is food your enemy or your friend?

Do you look at food and think this is “bad” and that is “good” ? And then you go for the “bad” food because it’s taboo. You say to yourself, “I shouldn’t be eating this, but it tastes good and I want it so I’m going to eat it anyway!” And justify eating that “bad” food because you had a busy, stressful day at work, shlepped the kids around and still need to get stuff done at home, phew!!!

So you eat the damn thing…But once you eat it, you regret it, you feel like crap and get disappointed with yourself.

When working with me my first question would be, “are you eating that ’pumpkin bread’ mindlessly or mindfully?” My second question would be, “are you having a piece, a handful, a slice or are you eating the whole thing in one sitting?”

If you are eating the “pumpkin bread” out of emotion, you’re on the phone, or watching TV and don’t really taste the food because you are scarfing it down, that mindless eating. Another example would be you are not paying attention to how much you are eating until it is gone. If this is the case then we would work on mindful eating.

One tip to eating mindfully is sitting down with no distractions and savoring every bite.

If you are able to eat a piece or a slice of the “pumpkin bread” and put it away, yet you feel regret after eating it, we would work on mindset!

One tip in this scenario is to have that piece and then let it go! ALLOW yourself to have that slice, enjoy it and be done with it. Remember results come with what you do consistently not what you do occasionally.

The way you perceive food and working out is so crucial to slimming down. Do you view them as the enemy and you HAVE to be 100% strict or else it won’t work? Or do you view them as you get to choose what you eat and how you move in a way that makes your body feel good?
