Heart Health + Getting Ready for Summer!
The pink and red hearts on our Valentine’s Day cards remind us of something very important—our actual hearts! February is the American Heart Association’s Heart Health Month, so it is a great time for us to focus on heart health, too.
There are many myths about heart health. Like, heart disease is primarily found in men and older people. Or, if heart disease runs in your family, there is nothing you can do about it. These are all false.
Actually, heart disease strikes more women than men, affecting one-third of all women. Heart disease can strike at any age, especially if you smoke, are sedentary, or have a habit of overeating.
The good news is that if you have developed bad habits or if heart disease runs in your family, you can start making lifestyle changes and effectively reduce your risk—today!
Whether you need to focus specifically on heart health or another issue related to your physical or mental well being, the key is taking small steps toward your goals.

I know about bad habits.
Just after I had my second beautiful baby, I was forced to shut down my business. All that I had worked so hard to build up was gone. It was such a blow. To be honest, I lost a piece of me when that happened. I was still working out consistently, but I fell back into some old (bad) food habits. As you can imagine, those choices affected me physically and emotionally.
Life happens, right? It may be years of bad choices or, like for me, just a hard season. But when we realize that we are heading down the wrong track, we have to give ourselves grace and move forward into better habits and a healthier lifestyle.
I’ve been working to build myself up everyday. I’ve made small changes. In January, I focused on one thing. Just one!
Now, it’s February, and I’ve picked one new habit to focus on. It’s a great way to ensure success—take on small goals and see great results.
Here are pictures taken of me on January 1 and February 7, 2022. In my mind I didn’t think I made any progress in those five weeks. But, these pictures show my efforts are working. Summer here I come!
The good news for you and me is that we can make small, incremental lifestyle changes that actually reduce things like the risk of heart disease while improving overall health.
