7 Signs You're Ready to Start Your Fitness Journey Back Up
When you want to start your fitness journey back up you are wanting to make changes to fitness habits. So focusing on BOTH working out and changing your eating habits may not be your top priority, in the beginning it may seem very overwhelming.
For starters, if you’re looking for the latest fad diet or gimmicks that will give you quick results, you may simply not have the time or money to think about looking at your current habits and change them slowly. You’re putting all of your resources into buying the gimmicks you “need” to see fast results.
As time goes on, and the excitement of this new diet/gimmick begins to diminish, you eventually start going back to your old habits.
Then frustration sets in…
Even though you “know” what you need to do, you continue to face the same struggles:
You don’t have the will power to keep up with the diet restrictions.
You are exhausted and don’t have the motivation to workout.
You live a very busy lifestyle and it’s too overwhelming to keep up with the rules of the diet.
You don’t have time to workout or cook.
You are constantly trying new diets or you go back to an old diet that you did in the past because you know it works, but this time you just can’t stick to it.
You never feel confident about how you look or how you feel.
You want to play with your kids, but you don’t have the energy or stamina to keep up.
Sound familiar?
If these common fitness struggles continue to plague you over and over again, it may be time to face the harsh reality: Take a look at yourself and your reality- what you are feeling (lack of confidence, energy) isn’t the real you or who you are as a parent, as an individual.
You’re in need of a fitness intervention.
A lifestyle change…not a diet.
To make a change it needs to fit your lifestyle, your food preferences, meals need to be simple yet tasty, you need workouts that you enjoy and are time effective. A lifestyle that you enjoy being in, not one that you dread day in and day out.
To create a lifestyle like this, you need to embrace the no diet mentality. The common pain points I listed above are a sure sign that the no diet mentality is the element you’re lacking in your fitness journey.
The no diet mentality includes:
-Looking at your current lifestyle from inside out so that you can plan ahead.
-Looking at your current habits so that you can acknowledge them and stop them in their tracks.
-Creating a lifestyle where you’re not tracking calories, weighing food or worrying if you can or cannot eat “this or that.” Instead you enjoy the foods you eat guilt free.
But how do I get there? How do I get to the point where I don’t have to track everything? How do I get to the point where I let go and trust myself and the food choices I make?
The key is moving and knowing what you are eating. Not just one of these elements, but both. These two areas are the foundation of feeling energized and getting lean and fit. Focus here to develop a strong base to build upon:
1.) Know your why. Why do you want to feel energized and become stronger, leaner, more fit? Getting to the root of your why will help you stick to your goals.
2.) Move. Find what you enjoy doing whether it be yoga, playing a sport, lifting weights, walking, group classes. Whatever it is, do what you enjoy and make it a part of your day.
3.) Food. Know what you are putting in your body. YOU choose what you put in your body. Make sure the meals are simple yet tasty. Eating healthier doesn’t mean grilled chicken and broccoli. You can have a burger, the key is using better alternatives for ingredients.
Losing weight doesn’t just happen overnight, but there comes a point in everyone’s fitness journey when they need to jump in with both feet. If the common fitness struggles I listed above keep popping up and causing frustration for you, investing the time into having a no diet mentality can be one of the best decisions you make for yourself.
