Six Simple Ways to Boost Your Immune System

There is no higher priority for me right now then your safety and health! A compromised immune system is more susceptible to any illness and with the Corona Virus becoming more serious many people are in a panic. Before going into panic mode, access your situation, focus on what you can control and make rational decisions rather feeding off of your emotions. So, let’s take a step back and look at what we can control. We have control over our health and I’m here to help you.

Here are 6 steps to help boost your immune system:

I know I this say it all the time, but I’m going to say it again ;)

1.) Avoid refined or added sugars. Sugar has been labeled by many as a toxin, and for good reason. It’s been linked to diseases that dominate our healthcare system, such as cancer, obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and liver disease. Consuming refined and artificial sugars can suppress the immune system.

2.) Eat nutrient dense, quality foods. Make sure you are including complex carbs, healthy fats and lean protein in every meal. Click HERE for an easy recipe. Avoid prepackaged and processed foods (I don’t recommend stocking up on canned foods, such as canned soups and meals). You can download my free food swap guide here Simple/Healthy Food Swaps

3.) Stay active. Go for a walk, a run, or workout at home. If you workout at the gym make sure to wipe everything down before and after using the equipment. Whatever you do keep up with your fitness routine. Click HERE for a quick workout (you will need a pair of weights for this one).

4.) Get enough sleep, at least 7-9 hours. Lack of sleep can lower your immune system.

5.) Doesn’t hurt to up your vitamin intake either. Take a vitamin C supplement (or eat more citrus fruits like oranges) and vitamin D (or get fresh air and some sun) to help boost your immune system. Be sure sure to check with your health professional for dosage.

6.) Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated.

Being pregnant puts me at a higher risk because my immune system is lower than normal, but instead of panicking I am make sure I’m doing all of they above! Also, I am concerned about my parents, they are in their 70’s. My mom is in good health, but my dad is not. On the bright side he is super cautious and is following the advice of his health care provider and is staying home. Again we are not panicking, instead we are focusing on the positives and doing all the things recommended to stay safe. So, I encourage you to breathe and follow these 6 steps along with the recommended steps from health care providers. Look out for loved ones and be kind to one another, we’ll get through this together :)
