5 Tips For A Healthy “Super Bowl Sunday” + Chili Recipe
What comes to mind when you hear “Super Bowl Sunday?” Beer, food, snacks and entertainment galore? So do I :) But you don’t have to avoid Super Bowl festivities if you’re trying to stay healthy.
Here are 5 tips to help you stay on track and it won’t make you feel like you’re losing out on the fun!
Get your workout done in the morning.
Eat a lighter breakfast and lunch.
Pace yourself if you drink alcoholic beverages. If you do, have a glass of water between each drink. You need to be hydrated to have a working Monday!
Use commercial breaks to mingle, chit chat and catch up with family and friends.
Bring a dish that you’ll enjoy. Need an idea? Here’s a chili recipe (below) for you to bring to the party.
Cooking shouldn't be a tiresome process. This recipe can be made fairly quick and the ingredients are all nutritious. No seasoning packets are used in this because most are loaded with sodium and sugar which will make you feel bloated and tired.
Here is my Chili Recipe for “Super Bowl Sunday:”
1 cup onion, diced
2 Tbps. Garlic, minced
1 red pepper, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1-2 8oz package Ground Beef Lean- 85% 15% or 90% 10% (stronger option: grass fed)
2 28oz cans diced tomatoes (no salt added)
1 15oz can black beans, rinsed and drained (no salt added)
1 15oz can pinto beans, rinsed and drained (no salt added)
1 15.25oz can kidney beans rinsed and drained (no salt added)
2 Tbps. Oregano
1 Tbps. Chili powder
1 Tbps Cumin
1 tsp Cayenne Pepper (spicy)
½ Lemon/Lime juice
Salt & Pepper to taste
1 Tbps Avocado oil
(add more of the seasonings if needed to taste)
1. Heat the avocado oil in a large pot over medium heat.
2. Add onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Saute for 3-4 minutes until the onions are translucent and the peppers begin to soften.
3. Add the ground beef and cook an additional 3-5 minutes until browned.
4. Add the remaining ingredients to the pot, mix it all together and lower the heat simmer for 40-45 min.
Enjoy with these optional toppings
Tabasco Sauce
Crackers (crushed- I recommend Simple Mills Brand) or Chips (I recommend Siete Brand)
Avocado slices
